A talk given by Andrew Sankey on Sir William Hooker
Friday 14th July
Upper Sheringham NR26 8TB
On the 6th July 150 members and guests gathered in the beautiful gardens of Sheringham Hall to celebrate the 30th Anniversary of the founding of the Norfolk Gardens Trust. We were very lucky to be able to hold this here due to the kindness of the owners, Paul Doyle and Gergely Battha-Pajor.
We were welcomed by Matthew Martin, chairman of the Trust, entertained with music played by the Eynesford Quartet and enjoyed drinks and delicious canapes (provided by Sara Gaymer). The weather was wonderful and the whole event turned into a beautiful, quintessential English evening. Some of the founding members of the trust were present and a commemorative photograph was taken.
Sheringham Hall, one of Humphry Repton’s last projects, is set in the most beautiful position within the Park (owned by the National Trust), overlooking the parkland with views to the temple on the hill.
