Thursday 14th June
Litcham, PE32 2QQ

On a sunny, but very breezy, afternoon members of the NGT paid a visit to Litcham Hall, by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Birkbeck. A three-acre garden designed and planted by the owners over 50 years.

There was a very pleasant contrast between the formal garden with it’s box and yew hedges and stone urns and the wild woodland area with it’s beautiful trees. Roses abounded in the walled garden and a very good design of borders and walls held a swimming pool- always a difficult thing to incorporate in any garden, but here done beautifully to make the most of the sun.

Their daughter’s garden, across the road, was also open for us to wander around. Here we had splendid lawns looking out with an enviable view across the fields.

Tea and cake, of course, courtesy of the ladies helping Karen, finished off a very interesting afternoon.
