A talk given by Andrew Sankey on Sir William Hooker
On Thursday 20th June, by the kind invitation of Mr and Mrs Simon Broke around 85 members and guests enjoyed an afternoon of broken cloud and sunny spells in the wonderful setting of Holme Hale Hall.
Simon gave a most interesting account of the history of the house which has been in the family for several generations, and Delia spoke about the creating of the Garden, and the designs by Arne Maynard. Their gardens are managed organically in as far as possible, and the vast numbers of bees and insects on the flowers were a testament to the varied planting. Plants propagated from home stock by the Head Gardener were on sale.

Teas were provided and served by the ladies from Holme Hale Church, and the proceeds from these combined with a Norfolk Gardens Trust contribution were for the benefit of St Andrew’s Church.
